It’s remarkable how much a little bit of clarity can affect our lives. Clarity helps us feel lighter, freer, clearer, and more focused. Clarity helps us mindfully stay in the moment and tackle life’s uneven terrain seamlessly, joyfully, and with the utmost confidence. Clarity helps us not get distracted by sadness, regret, anxiety, fear, or doubt regarding the future. Clarity helps us take the world by storm.

But how do we even get clarity? There’s actually a pretty simple solution. If you want clarity, you need to declutter. There’s a great book I recently read that inspired me, called Clutter Free by Kathi Lipp.

As a matter of fact, according to an article in Psychology Today, clutter can take its toll on each of us psychologically.

So many of us are drowning in stuff, and it’s having a major impact on our lives. Our homes often act as a mirror to our emotional states. We subconsciously create environments that reflect our inner turmoil. Clutter is a sure sign of an internal struggle. It can be a sign of grief, worry, anxiety, or fear; emotions that take away our valuable energy only to give us added stress in return. Clutter blocks any chance of clarity and gets in the way of our success and happiness. It’s time to clean out all physical, mental, and emotional clutter and allow ourselves to experience clarity.

According to, letting clutter accumulate in your home can actually hurt your work performance too.

For all of those who don’t believe that decluttering and clarity go hand-in-hand, just try it. I promise that you’ll be amazed by the physical and emotional benefits that come from making the conscious effort to clear your space and simplify your life.

There are many ways to declutter to lighten your load. Here are a few quick steps to help you start decluttering to make physical, mental, and emotional space:

1. Clean Out Your Closet

Go through your closets and let go of anything and everything that you haven’t worn in the past year. I did, and I felt a million pounds lighter!

2. Go Offline

Schedule blocks of time to disconnect from your phone and laptop and connect with family, friends, and nature. I promise, it will do you (and those you love) a world of good!

3. Meditate or Practice Yoga

Meditating or practicing yoga daily can help clear your mind, reduce stress, and ignite creativity. Added bonus: you’ll get a rocking body too ;).

4. Write

Take the time every day or week to write down your goals for the day, the week, the month, and the year. Putting your ideas down on paper is the first step of putting your ideas into action.

5. Donate

Give what you let go of to a local shelter or charity. Donating and helping others will give you an extra incentive to clear out your spaces.

6. Stay Positive

Remind yourself daily that you CAN do this. Don’t listen to the voice in your head that tells you that you’re too busy, too tired, too broke. That voice is wrong.

7. Choose to Let Go

Make the conscious decision to intentionally clear the clutter that’s been holding you back. Choose clarity over clutter.

There’s something to be said for simplicity––and there’s no better time than the present to say goodbye to clutter and hello to clarity. I guarantee that it’s a lot cheaper, and more rewarding than therapy!
